Hi all - does the DiimoCache 50mhz work with System 6 on a machine which would otherwise support the OS? Or does it, as indicated here, require System 7.0?
Grateful for swift replies as I'm considering blowing a large bucket of money.
Also, I realised I put this in the Compact Macs channel, which made sense at the time because I want to put it in an SE/30, but it might not be the best place. Sorry.
I don't see anything about compatibility with System 6 anywhere. I see no minimum requirements, just that it's compatible with 7.0, 7.1 & 7.5. Besides, for System 6.0.8 on an SE/30, who the heck needs an accelerator and for what?
The photo of Knez's box in my second post says 6.0.5 is the minimum, but then that's only under the LCIII and Performa 450 line, which can't run system 6 anyway. Hmmmm.
Are you really gonna use either of them for much and for what? It all boils down to the applications you need/wand to run for what you choose to do with any computer.
You'd get better bang for the buck by accelerating the TAM because you can do more A/V kinda things with it. The SE/30 everyone seems to love, but I can't figure out what they do with them other than pimp them out. Almost any desktop at its Mac IIcx level is much better at every single thing the SE/30 can do aside from fitting into a cute little Compact Mac Bag.
At least the TAM is a fairly good Stereo and pretty too if you like that sort of thing.
"Because it's there" is all the reason I ever need to take a whack at doing something inadvisable. [}]
I took my SE/30 to Switzerland for a summer internship in one of those bags as carry on back in the day. I liked it because it was a working Mac with a small footprint that I could later improve with an external monitor when I could afford it.
i think people like them so much because the compact Mac is the iconic humble origin of the Mac line and the SE/30 is the king of that form factor. I’ll use my pimped out SE/30 the same as I would any other vintage Mac.
