Quadra 700 Gripes

Hey all! I'm new here as a user, but I've been browsing the forums for the past couple years... I decided to become a user since I now have a working 68k Mac in my posession.

Anyways, I seem to be having a couple problems with my QUadra 700

So far, it still has the 25MHz '040, it has 20MB RAM, two added 256k simms for the onboard graphics, and a 1GB Seagate Barracuda drive which is a real whiner. I originally got this system at a yard sale for $12, which is probably a bad price to pay in my case.

The people doing the sale were from one of those "Help plan and do your sale" sites and marked the Qu700, along with a IIci and an SE/30 as "refurbished". REFURBISHED? I opened the IIci up and the entire machine was full of rust and corrosion! So I guess it wasn't that bad... but I guess I could have sneaked the SE/30 out as the monitor for it [;)] ]'>

Anyways, here's my problem(s):

I installed a DOS Compatibility card (Houdini II, I think, or so the model number tells me) that I got in the trash (!!!) into the PDS slot. After installing the software for it and being greeted by my old friend MS-DOS, I did some research and found instructions on how to install the card in a Quadra 700... and if anyone has seen that page, I didn't saw/melt off the card-holder plastic on the top of the case, I just broke it off. worked better [:D] ]'>.

But all in all, it works, but I can't seem to get the DOS Side networked. I remember reading something about Netware and LSL.com and MACODI.COM and ODIPKT and stuff, but it just doesn't work. I need basic TCP/IP, and a packet driver that will work with the NTCPDRV TCP Stack. when I try to use it with that I get a "Must be Class 1 (Blue Book) or SLIP" error. I read something about moving the Mac side over to MacIP so that the DOS side gets the TCP/IP flow instead but it all just confuses me.

I also can't install any PC Setup software higher than 1.5. if I do then it just restarts Finder and (in some cases) crashes/halts the computer. I'm guessing this is because everything higher than 1.5 is made for a PPC environment?

For further reference I'm currently using PC Setup 1.5, I have a 10Mbps Linksys Hub with AAUI connector that plugs into the Qu700 and draws power from it, I can access the internet fine on the Mac side, and I have also tried Windows 95 on the DOS side for networking to no avail.

If help can be provided for my case, it would be greatly appreciated to the highest extent... I need the DOS side on the internet very badly, and soon. :-/

(EDIT: I also want to add a second HDD in with a SCSI cable and a Molex splitter I have, but the case seems to be too small. any tips on what on the case I'll be modding off?)

Why did you change the text size of your post? It's a lot harder to read like that. Fix it and people might be more inclined to read it and reply.

Someone made and released a better version of the PCSetup app. PCsetup2.x perhaps. I forget where and whom. Search here or Google.

As for another drive, I'd take out the floppy and put the drive in there. I don't know if this is possible, because I'm tired.

already tried that, which is what I meant by anything newer than 1.5. that one just crashes the OS. I've also tried reinstalling MacOS on the machine, and it still didn't work.
