Problem with PowerBook G4 Superdrive

My little 12" AlBook seems to be having some issues with its superdrive. Any disk that I insert is sucked in, pondered for a few seconds, then immediately spat back out. Blank CDs and DVDs, Music and data CDs, Movie DVDs, everything is just rejected. Any ideas why it's doing this? It worked beautifully about a week ago when I burned a CD for a friend. The drive is a Matshita DVD-R UJ-835E.

Unfortunately it sounds like it's failing. If you have something else to boot off of on the machine, such as another PPC Mac like your G4 via Target Disk Mode, do that. You'll at least be able to see if it's a software issue. Reset the PRAM for good measure, but it most likely won't help.

You might be able to repair it, but most likely you'll need to replace it. Keep in mind 12" Powerbooks aren't the most fun thing to work on.

Well, it seems to have decided to fix itself after I made an appointment at the Genius Bar; funny how these machines fix themselves when you call Apple :)

Much in the same way as how stuff you order from Apple decides to show up after you decide to cancel your order. ;) (back in 2004/2005 I waited 3 months to get an iPod, the very day I decided to cancel my order it showed up!)
