Pricing Recommendations?

Hey all. I'm still in the process of completing my on again/off again quest to sell 20+ classics that I have laying around the house.

Question is, now that they've been cleaned up, how much should I price them for?

I'm just going to be selling the base computer+power cable, so I'm not exactly sure what my pricing should be. (I've already figured out shipping)

Going to be selling various: Plus, SE, Classic, Classic II models.

Any help is appreciated :)

Suggestion: all of these macs will need to be recapped (unless they already are).

Send them off to be recapped at your expense. Divide the total cost of recapping (shipping + recapping service), then add $50 for the price of the Classic.

Don't expect to sell them quickly or all at once - maybe over a period of a couple of years.

This way you are being very social by greatly extending the life of the Classics.

In the long run, you probably won't make much, if any money, on them, but the hobbyist community will be the better for it.

I recently sold an un-recapped Classic II, Keyboard 2 and Mouse 2 in working condition for $65 here in Des Moines. While I see these go for a bit more on eBay in the condition mine was, I did not want to deal with shipping and packing costs and the potential for breakage regardless of how well packed it was.

Would be a bit of a leap of faith to do all of the recapping work ahead for buyers - maybe do for an SE 30 model and see if you can get the price you want as a test case?

I'd say the price depends quite a lot on where you sell it. eBay will likely fetch the highest prices. In general, maybe anywhere from $25 to $100 each?

If it were me, I wouldn't bother with recapping any of them before selling. I think it's unlikely that most buyers will be willing to pay more for a recapped system. Or if they are, they won't pay enough more to cover your cost and hassle of the recapping work.

Thanks everyone. I think I'll feel out the prices on my local CL page tomorrow. I'll post some in a thread on the trading post. :p

That is definitely worth a shot. It took me a couple of ad cycles on CL before I found my buyer. It's a needle in a haystack thing, but the larger the market, the better. Good luck! I was happy that mine went to a good home, to an engineer who knew what he was buying and really wanted it.
