Platinum Plus Appreciation

I know this sounds trivial, but after taking my platinum Plus out of its box for the first time in years today, I found myself really liking the shade of its case. It seems most Pluses are either beige to begin with or so incredibly yellowed that it's tough to find one of these platinum Pluses in a true platinum shade.

I think what I like best is the fact it's the original Mac design, save for the badge on the front, in a color it was never intended to use, yet somehow looks even better that way--it's like a strange blend of more modern and very classic.

Anyone else have a really nice platinum Plus or simply likes this design? It seems very under-appreciated in a world full of Color Classics, SE/30s, and 128Ks.

I agree, yours there looks really great.

The plus is a great machine!

- upgradable ram

- SCSI!!!!!

I like the plastics design language of the 128/512k/Plus

I used to own a Platinum Plus (that one was parted out in 2011). In comparison to my early 1986 Beige Plus (which I still own) I would have to say that the lighter colour was an insignificant change. It's still a very elegant design (far superior to the SE, although the SE/30 was a substantial improvement).

IMHO, I would have preferred a darker colour (i.e., black or indigo) just to stir things up.

I had one between 1993 and 1998... Kinda wish I'd kept it, instead of selling it on the comp.sys.mac.marketplace (IIRC) newsgroup. Also wish I still owned my Apple IIgs upgrade kit machine.

I used a partner's Platinum Plus for a while, it was a great counterpoint to the SE on the other side of the 19" PanaPro. Was the KeyCap/Mouse button color the same as the beige version's?

Painting a Plus and its peripherals black, and screen printing the name in KeyCap gray has been a simmering back burnered project idea for a while now.

I've got way too many beige Plus cases in my grubby little paws. ;D

Go for it, jt. I'm sure the results will be interesting.

The buttons and keycaps were a little lighter than the outright brown of the beige version (for a non-yellowed platinum, think the color of a nice Starbucks frappuchino) but were still a nice contrast to the rest of the case. I think I might like the two-toneness of the case more than any other element now that you mention it!

I need to get a dust cover (or get someone to sew me one) for this machine to protect it from the elements--I used to have one but gave it to my cousin! Anything to prevent this little guy from yellowing would be great!!!

Yes, I do plan to use it once I move into my new digs and build a desk for it (while I'm still at my current place where my power tools are).

I've got a beautiful one in my collection... very pretty looking little machine. Actually, I reckon its about time I go and bring a compact home from the cave. Havent played with one of mine in many years.

It looks like I've got the best of both worlds, a nicely un-yellowed Drexel128lk/Plus and a VERY yellow Platinum set of peripherals for it! The bottoms of mouse and KBD are platinum and the Keys and buttons are gray. Both cords are markedly gray as compared to the cord on the beige mouse you sent my way. Now that I look at how the front bezel of the ZipMacPlus cleaned up it appears to be platinum, especially where I filed it away and exposed bare plastic during the ZipSlotHack. That was the Plus that I bought at the flea market just to get the peripherals (including an HD20 SC) that were included with it for the DrexelMac.

The recessed background of the logo on the mouse is painted a charcoal gray as well, very different from the beige rodent you just sent me.

Gotta try scrubbin' up the other two buckets to see which one matches the Platinum Zipster.

Perhaps a shade of blue will be more effective?
:p Black is beautiful, think Director's Edition Compact. Candy@$$ Macs have the prefix i and ergonomically painful rodents attached.

Dammit.. I'm looking at it again!

So, assuming one were to do a black case mod, how does one go about getting white or light grey text printed as per factory font and size on the front bezel?

I was considering getting my mate in the printing business to make up a vinyl transfer but I think itd be too delicate?

Ahhhh like the stuff used on Airfix model decals? That sounds like a superb idea... how would it turn out though with the textured finish? Would it trap air and look like a bad sticker?

You can print on water slide decal paper in your laser printer.
In white? :?:

I thought that picture looked familiar, that's a Tempest Mac . . .

. . . and it ain't Black, it's definitely Jaz Drive Green! The white balance in the pic is right. How did it look in the movie?

This one really is black, but it's not nearly as

It's a 10" monitor, not 9" and he mentions the back, but the guy leaves the viewer to infer the fact that the tube sticks out the backside of the case about an inch and a half.

Been there, done that. ;)

From my recollection (I've seen Watchmen a couple of times) that SE/30 is black. I'm not sure what the hell "Jaz Drive Green" is :?:
