Performa 6300CD board upgrade

Hi guys.

I have gotten my hands on a performa 6400 logic board as well as a TRACO POWER TSR 1-2433 voltage regulator.

I remember there was some post on how to upgrade a 6200/6300 power supply to support alchemy boards, but I can't find it.

Does anyone know of a guide for people who aren't really that good at reading wiring schematics? It would be nice to have a picture that shows which wires you need to reroute and connect to the device.

I found the post, and I can see in the pictures where the white wire goes. But it is not clear to me where the red and black wires are going to.





Any advice on how to find out?

When viewed from the top with the edge connector toward you, the non-PCI boards have their power pins arranged left-to-right 12v/G/G/G/5v/5v, while the PCI models are 12v/G/G/3.3v/5v/5v.

Colors weren't always standard, but normally yellow is 12v, black (and sometimes brown) is ground, red is 5v, and white is likely 3.3v. So if your harness is in front of you with the open edge connector facing away from you, the interface ribbon cables would be to the left and the power wires to the right, going in whichever pattern the computer originally had. This should have the colors arranged Y/B/B/B/R/R for non-PCI, or Y/B/B/W/R/R for PCI. To modify a non-PCI harness to accept a PCI board, you would remove the third black wire and replace it with the white one to match the PCI harness. Just wrap some electrical tape around the loose black wire and get it out of the way; you won't need it for anything.

If your power supply is for a non-PCI model it won't have 3.3v available anywhere; you'll have to build an external 3.3v regulator to attach to the harness somehow. Normally I follow a guide on powercc.org and build a simple regulator directly into the harness by tapping into one of the 5v lines. This keeps everything neat and compact..
