Performa 410 software?

I looked and looked but other than the system software I can't seem to find what software was included with this machine.

Anyone have a hive of knowledge they can help me find out?

I dont think there was any specific software for the 410. Honestly, I am not even sure what really ever made the 410 what it is. But its pretty clear why it did not last long. The 460 is its brother and system 7.1P3 was apparently made for both of these. So if anything, look for a System 7.1P3 package for originality.

Ya the system software was easy to find info on.

The 410 I guess was only badged for two weeks. As I see it they got all excited about the fact the plastic badge had a limited run. The hardware is pretty common across the LC series, the only thing I can find no mention of is the included software.

Like all the rest of you tube videos and web pages mine came with a dead hard drive.

So I was going to just see what I could find out in that area.

Hmmmm... Well I am interested too since I too have a 410. But I am not so big on the software collecting aspect, so it never crossed my mind. And the Performa series was just a train wreck across the line. What ones needs to find is a retail box for one. That may be the easiest way to know. Or some sales promotional stuff. From my brief search I can find little on software specifics.

The Performa 400 and 410 were LC IIs. You can start there for software, although the is some department store software they sold with it. Most of the software was preinstalled on the hard drive by either Apple or the Dept. store though Apple.

Yes. We know that. The question is on the specific bundled software that made it the 410. As you know, some models had different designations based on hardware (60mb HD versus 80mb) and some had different designations only because the software package was different.

Ya that is the oddball question, what was preinstalled as it only had a floppy?  Unless you have the box you probably won't know for sure.  Once the 63x series hit it was all on CD rom by model, but not until then.

Correct me if I'm wrong on this bit - the LCII came out before the end of System 6, so is can boot System 6. With that said, when the Performas came out, they came out after System 7 came out, and thus all have some form of System 7 on them. I remember that from a NYMUG Meeting as to how to increase the membership from the new Apple owners as some department stores would not allow outside advertisement on their products.

Since the software was already preinstalled, there were no floppy back ups. That was a major complaint of the systems, especially where some early hard drives failed and there was no way to recover what was there or install a new system. Eventually somebody created a freeware/shareware program to back up the system onto 25 floppies. 100 floppies more or less backed up the whole software library of the hard drive, not your data. This back up was bootable only on the first disk and ran a program to extract the rest. It also was able to create an emergency boot floppy.

As I remember, the software on the system was:

The System 7 Software (kinda obvious)

Games: Eric Solitare, Spectra VR, a couple of others. Some came with KidPix.

Utilities: QuickTime, Stuffit Expander

Office software: Last versions of MacWrite/MacPaint. Later versions came Microsoft Word. Hypercard was added later on.

Graphics: MacPaint, KidPix and in later cases PhotoShop LE (Limited Edition). This version of Photoshop was 4.0 I believed, dumbed down to be more like MacPaint and could not use PS Extensions.

If sold with a modem which some later 400/410 and most of the 420s (LCIIIs) and beyond were sold with, Communications Software: Some kind of Telnet program; AOL's software, and as the internet started- Mosaic and Netscape on later versions with membership programs to join AT&T, Genie, Prodigy, and a couple of other ISPs.

There was also a presentation cartoon movie about the Performa.

And I think that was it.

Im going to shoot myself.
Why?

The external CD ROM Drive came out during System 6, before the LC Series. I remember buying one for my IIcx for $299; labeled under "Apple's Media Center". It came with the CD 600e Drive, cables and external Apple speakers powered by a wall wart. Since it was a 600, I know that the 300 and 150 CD Drives came before that.

System 7 came out in CD or a box of 25 or so Floppies. Very few of the floppy sets were sold, and people upgrading from System 6 to System 7 usually bought the CD Media Kit with it.

But the Performa's 400/600 series did not came with the CD Drive. If you wanted a CD Drive with your Perfoma, you bought it along with it, adding some $300 to the price.

Thing I remember, as my brother bought a Performa and I already owned 2 Mac IIcx's by then, the guy in the department store tried to force us to buy the StyleWriter Printer with the Performa. I told him that I had a LaserWriter Personal with my Mac and my bro can use it with the Performa. The sales guy went off saying that it would not work. he was really trying hard to dump the StyleWriter on my bro. We got it without the StyleWriter. My Bro did buy a StyleWriter Color when his bought his Second Performa (475) and gave his old Performa to his 8 yr old son.

November 1992 Macworld covers reviews for the whole Performa line. I can't find a copy of it but I'm hoping it lists something.

All the sites list it's different software package, but no listing of any of software package on any of the performa's from 200-400's.

Elfen: I think the question isn't about Performas or their software in general, but the specific software package that was exclusive to the Performa 410.  One of the main things that differentiated the P410 from the other LC II based Performas (P400, P405, and P430) was the software titles with which it shipped.  Macdrone would like to know those P410-specific titles.

Macdrone: The 410 was a late 93 model, so your 92 MacWorld probably won't list it.

The Performa line was upcoming. I don't have that Macworld, but it was my hope it may review it.

I found shipping box pictures of the Performa 600 and the 476 (yes I know the 600 is not a pizza box version). No really good pictures of box listing.

I gave that list because that is what was on the Perfomas I worked on at schools in NYC and those who people owned them though NYMUG. But all this software was prepackaged in the Perfomas. If you were to have bought an LC II at the time, you would have gotten envelopes of floppy disks with the software in them with the machine (especially the System software) ad the software already installed on the LC; but you received no floppy disks with the Performas. For many years that was a problem for many Performa owners.

The only "Specific Software" on the Performas was the System software. To quote Wikipedia:

...Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing, or Mario Teaches Typing, and a selection of games such as Spectre Challenger, Diamonds, and Monopoly, all pre-installed over a slightly customized version of the Macintosh System software, denoted by a P in the version number (e.g., System 7.1P5).
The only other thing I remember was that cartoon video about the Performa and its capabilities my brother's Performa had. Except for these two things, any and all software you had on the LCs, you had on the Performas.

According to EveryMac, the LC II came in either System 6.08 or System 7.0.1. But the Performa 400/410 came with System 7.0P. Being an LC II, the Performa 400/410 and so on can run System 6.08 and/or System 7.0.1.
