PB150 hard drive dead; options and weird issue

Uh oh! I'll bet you could clip it out without one, desoldering a bit first just made it easier.
So this gets curiouser and curiouser! New PSU arrived today.

The PB refuses to power up with any of the PSUs now. I left it unplugged with the battery out all day since I was out. I managed to get the PRAM battery removed very easily w/ some snips. No leakage, just some corrosion around the (-) as to be expected. No change - still nothing. I tried with the battery out and in, again, still dead. New and OG PSUs both putting out at least 2.5A. Not sure if it's relevant at all but when it does/did power on, it would turn on when I plugged the PSU in - no need to press the power button (this has been consistent since I got it). It does shut down OK and the power button does work.

I have also tried the reset process for the power manager via the reset button.

So the last part of the power system that I can replace is the battery itself - there seem to be some suppliers that have the right ones w/new cells for a decent price.

Now that I have written this, it'll fire up and work perfectly the minute I order a replacement battery :-D

Odd, it definitely doesn't need a battery to start. I guess there's something wrong with your board. And for the record, this is standard behavior on any 150 without a charged PRAM battery.

Yeah I'm hoping it'll come back to life somehow but not holding my breath. £30 for a new battery is worth a punt...

Where did you find a battery for $30?
So I am not convinced it’s legit but it’s apparently a re-celled PB battery:

Oddly it shows £31 on my laptop and €39 on my phone!

Unit continues to power up intermittently and for a few seconds.

I've done some poking around with the multimeter on the battery (7.5V) and on the board when connected to the PSU. There's 7.8V on the charging terminals for the battery. The top side terminals on the barrel connector show 7.8V to ground from the hot pin. I don't know what else to check. I'm going to try to get the mono out to look for short/corrosion on the underside.

I have a battery from a PB145b but it's very very dead and starting to bulge a bit, and never held much charge.

I refuse to give up, dammit! (sunk cost fallacy)
