OS 8.6 on PB 5300

I obtained a copy of OS 8.6 on CD today from a friend, and the first thought that popped into my head was "the 5300!" When I got home, I didn't know how I was going to install it, so I made a disk image of it on my MacBook. Since I wanted to upgrade the hard drive, I partitioned the new one (from the Clamshell) so I could copy the disk image to it and boot the 5300 that way. Problem is, it won't boot from the partition. It just sits there with the blinking floppy. I can hear the HDD spin up, but is there anyway to test and make sure it is reading the HDD properly?

I tried booting the computer from the CD and no dice. It won't go past the Happy Mac. I'm using a (far as I can tell) no name brand CD drive that came with the Quadra 650. I'm guessing that it won't boot since its not an Apple CD Drive. Is there anyway to override it? Or where can I get a cheap Apple CD drive?

Well, I've run into another problem. The new HDD isn't working right. After trying to fix it, running Disk Utility, everything, nothing work. Long story short, I got so pissed I through the whole thing against the wall. I now need to wipe the HDD of the Tangerine Clamshell and have to install all the updates for Panther. It's all messed up. Just hope the hardware's OK.

The e-swapmeet is this weekend. I'll look into picking up a new hard drive and an IDE-equipped Mac laptop that I can easily swap HDD drive in and out of. Escentually, the exact opposite of the Clamshell. Any suggestions?
