Opened up my 512K

The back room is finally cleared so now I'm getting my 512K tidied up and cleaned before I fire it up for the first time (hopefully not the last) and then sorting out the 4xHD20s and SCSI HDD I've scrounged up for it. So, popped the 512K open to check the caps and general condition. Pleasantly surprised that the analogue board was in such good condition, all the caps look good, and no little puddles of destruction evident.

Pulled the motherboard out, and still looking good, but what's that down (up?) there?

SCARLAN MEGARAM ?? Never heard of it/them, but looks like I've got 512KB more than I expected

Not much dust, so a general clean, quick clean of the FDD (must check that eject motor later), put it back together and dropped in my Finder copy.

YAY! it boots.

Time to double check that RAM

So, has anyone familiar with SCARLAN MEGARAM upgrades? Not that I'm going to loose any sleep over it, but it'd be nice to find out about the company and upgrade.

Next weekend, try and find that HD20 INIT floppy that's hiding around here somewhere to start looking at the HD20s after they get their clean and check-ups before powering them on. Still got that first hacked up one I found years ago, so hopefully I can get one, or two of them operational.

SJ did not want any expansion slots, Looks like there had to be enough of a market for some companies to say in business making SCSI/RAM upgrades for the 128k 512k.

I really like my 512k, The one I got from mcdermd, It has has both the, ram upgrade and the scsi upgrade.

When i got it all back together with it internally booting from the 100mb zip drive, I had a perma grin like all night.

i enjoyed the fact that it was never intended to have more ram or scsi let alone internally booting hard drive !!! :)

SCARLAN MEGARAM
I would also like to know about the history of these companies that made these upgrades.

Shame - SJ left / Pushed out, because if it was up to him, these upgrade companies would of had a longer run i bet.

Once the Plus came with SIMMs, these companies had to start doing processor upgrades. That was a market that went strong all the way up until the Intel switch. What's funny is that I haven't given much thought to where the Sonnets, NewerTechs, etc have gone until just now.
