Hi!

I finally got my PowerMac G4 Sawtooth 400 MHz I bought on eBäh..

After threatening with court and lawyer they finally just sent it. [}:)] ]'>

It's completely original. All parts as they were when the Mac came out of production.

I put a spare 120 GB ATA drive in it, and installed several OSes on it. And I put my RTL 8185 WLan card in it because I don't want to have other network cables lying around...

But that one does work only in 10.3 and 10.4.

I have a few questions on the Mac:

The DVD-ROM reads only CD's, nothing else. Is it defect? Dirty?

Do you know if there is any chances to use the Realtek card with OS 9?

Does anybody have a Mac OS 8.6 for that specific model? [)] ]'>

As far as I know the RTL 8185 only has drivers for 10.3 and 10.4. There are no other MacOS drivers on Realtek's web site.

Maybe the DVD ROM drive was replaced? Click Blue Apple--->About this Mac--->More info--->Disc burning to see what kind of drive you have. If it says reads DVD No, then you don't have a DVD player.

It is an Matshita DVD ROM drive...

It reads CD's with any problem, so I think dirt shouldn't be a problem.
