my Mac Centris 610- caps list for recapping? and PPC ?

My 610 is my original "new" first Mac, not used or second hand but brand new and it has served me although it's pretty much used for gaming these days.

I'd like to keep it for many more years so the obvious issues are caps. Is there a list of caps I need so I can rebuild my Centris? I'm getting a PPC 6100 board that is also facing recapping and would serve as backup in case my 610 is hopelessly dead.  There's an Apple 300i CD-ROM but I still need the sled and bezel to secure it in place and make it look complete.  Maybe recap the CD-ROM?

Replacing the stock 040 LC CPU with RC would get me a bit of boost in FPU enhanced apps. I'll leave the speed as is for now.  I also have a PPC 601 upgrade card that I found a few days ago, is it worthwhile or should I consider selling the boxed upgrade kit? It's missing only the disks.  If it's better kept and installed, how would I go about getting the 7.1.2 updaters?  I haven't used floppy disks in ages, and CF or SD card adapter can run me $100.  SCSI CD burner isn't cheap assuming I find working one that can be used with my Wallstreet.

Recapping the logic board is always a good option. As for the CD ROM Drive, they use those micro-solid state caps so re-capping it is not an option. The problem lies in the LASER of the drive lasting this long. There are places here and there online that sells new lasers but you need to know the exact make and model of laser being used.

Upgrading the LC040 to an RC040 is a good move too. As for the PPC601 upgrade card, that is on you. Some say good things, others bad, about such upgrade cards. I'm in the middle and say its on you. You can get the drivers from many sources on the net, and use AppleTalk with a printer cable between the Wallstreet and your 610 to transfer the file.

The Centris 610 is a nice machine - not too big, but with decent accessibility and space for accessories inside. Some even have ethernet on the motherboard. Does yours?

I recapped my Quadra 610 which is running at 25 MHz, added a QuadDoubler (nice to have room for it inside), added a 160 gig IDE drive with a SCSI-IDE adapter, added two 128 meg SIMMs (using bbraun's memory controller hack in NetBSD), and added a NuBus adapter with a NuBus ethernet card. It has had uptimes of more than half a year with zero hardware problems.

While I don't have a list of the capacitors, I do remember there weren't many and that it was pretty straightforward. Good luck! It's a very nice machine.

Mine does have onboard ethernet but it used tiny Apple connector and I don't have a transceiver to deal with it.

Thanks for that link, looks like easy job for the 610.

Hey Wily, did you need an AAUI ethernet adapter?? Shoot man. PM me if you do!
Thanks but not at this time. I am not planning to run internet on my Macs, I am used to running Chrome at 1920x1080 and Centris can't do that or run modern style browser without choking on complex CSS or flash.  I most likely won't do much file sharing since I've copied most of the important files off Centris and Duo 280c through the Wallstreet to a CF card on PCMCIA adapter.

It's just mostly gaming and novelty now. Upgrades for better performance like regular '040 instead of LC and more RAM can help but that's the extent of my serious upgrade plan.  I'll probably sell the PPC upgrade once I test it and verify it still works. I still need to download 7.1.2 upgrade disks to my Wallstreet and move it over to Centris.
