Monitor adjustments missing??

I have a performa plus display 14" monitor connected to both a centris 610 and a performa 6112.  On both systems the screen is offset and has about 1 inch of black border on the sides.  For the life of me I can't find any screen adjustments on the monitior itself, only a roller for contrast and brightness.  Both systems run 7.5.3 and the monitors control panel doesn't have anything to choose other than 640x480 which I believe is what the monitors max res is.   I also have an emac that runs 9.2.2 and it has geometry settings in the control panel software, but these two system 7 machines don't have this option.

Is there a way to add that adjustment to the control panel? or another way to get the screen to fill the monitor

Thanks for any suggestions.

The geometry adjustments are internal to the monitor. To access them, you need to (carefully) remove the outer casing and look around for the little pots (in my experience, they've either been on the rear edge of the analog board facing out, or somewhere along the sides, facing up).

Someone who knows more than I do would be better able to help, but this will hopefully get you started.

One word of warning, though: this is not for the inexperienced. You MUST be very careful not to touch any live circuits, as the voltages present, at the very least, will be extremely unpleasant.

Good luck!

Thanks.  I hadn't popped the cover off yet.  I will try this and see if I can find the adjustments.  Thanks too about the word of warning on the HV.  I am totally scared to death of the flyback and will be careful around that area.  Had another monitor with a failing flyback and the high voltage pops are enough to freak me out with the case on.

Check the back of the case for small holes and icons or letters above them. On most, not all, monitors that is where you can make some adjustments with some TV-Plastic Tools. You can get those fro Radio Shack (their online store is still open) for about $5, no more then $10.

On some Apple Monitors, there is a plastic door on the back like the old 512K/Plus Battery door. Open that door and there will be adjustment holes you can tinker with - again with plastic tools.

You do not want to use metal screwdrivers as 1) You can get a shock from it. And 2) you can break the tiny pot in the hole. The plastic tool would start to bend when you reach the end of travel of the pot while a metal screw driver will break the pot.

Thanks Elfen for the info.  I just happened to have a plastic pouch with an assortment of plastic sticks from back when I restored a few vintage Marantz amps.  I took the shell off the monitor and sure enough there were some internal pots that adjusted what I needed.  Strange as there was no way to access them from the outside of the monitor.

Anyway I am in business.  Thanks so much for all your input..
