Modifying iBook charger to run a 1400c

I've got a PowerBook 1400c/166 that I'd like to test before buying a power brick for it. Since I have an iBook A1036 charger that has the same voltage and current ratings, I was wondering if I can put a 1400c compatible connector on the iBook charger to test the 1400c. However, some of the pinouts I've seen for the iBook charger show a resistor between shield and GND (I've attached an example). Will excluding this resistor harm the 1400c or the charger, and are there any possible issues with using this charger at all with this computer?

Thanks!

Update: modified the power adapter to run the 1400c. Symptoms are as follows:

- Boots as soon as charger is plugged in

- Sound is pretty distorted

- Gets to question mark floppy icon

- Doesn't boot from CD drive (may be doing something wrong or the drive just doesn't work)

- Resetting PRAM causes power LED to come on (wasn't previously) pressing power button dims LED but doesn't start the machine

- Holding reset button for a minute to reset power manager changes nothing

Narrowed sound issue down to a bad speaker, and narrowed CD drive issue down to the fact that I was using CD-RW's, which this drive does not support. Power issues still remain.
