Mac SE FD/HD score, minor quirks

Hey everyone!

Been a long time since I've found myself with anything interesting, been out of the classic mac game for a minute. Found myself a tidy little SE FD/HD with keyboard, mouse, and telecom adapter at a flea market. Got it home, it boots up but only boots to the screen you see with the cursor, and after about 30 seconds, the screen starts to dim on its own before finally going completely dark. Would like to restore it, as it's in pretty good shape - only missing one foot, no cracks in the case, not too yellowed and only a tiny serial number etching in the top of the case. This model is a bit nostalgic for me because one of the computer labs in elementary school had a few of these. Hoping someone can maybe shed some light on the display issue and if it's fixable before I spend too much time cleaning it up. Meanwhile I'll be looking for some of the old software floppys that I know my pops has.

Stoked on this little find, my first compact classic Mac, should be a fun little project!

Needs now AB/PSU caps for sure. Hanging at the startup screen there could be a number of things. Some photos of the AB and MB would be very helpful. Welcome back!

Thanks for the responses! I'll be disassembling over the next couple days, see what's what, will probably post a topic in the classic section.

Nice find! To me, the order of "great" compact Macs looks like this:

  1. SE/30
  2. Classic II
  3. SE FDHD
  4. Classic
To me, the SE FDHD/SuperDrive is a fantastic and highly usable machine (usable in the appropriate context here). I really hope you can get the issues fixed, this one is worth it!
