Mac Plus to PC serial connection

I tried connecting the macplus to my pc via a serial cable. Cable on the macplus end has a din connector that goes into the plus's printer or modem port and a 25 pin connector that I've attached to a null modem cable then into the pc via a usb to serial cable. I know a lot of cables. Last time I used the null modem cable between two pc's it worked and I've also used the usb to serial cable for other things and that also worked.

I tried connecting the two computers via a temninal program. On the plus I used the one that comes with Claris works and on the PC I used Tera Term and no go. I tried many different baud rates etc and it doesn't seem like the two are communicating at all.

Does anyone know if this configuration should work?

If the DIN-8 -> DB-25 cable is an Apple Printer Cable, it's already a null modem cable.

If so: drop out the null modem converter/cable (?) and try it again!

If it's an Apple Serial Cable, then it's straight thru.

More info? :?:

The cabling from the Plus' serial port: DIN-8>DB-25<>DB-25>USB to the PC's USB port sounds dicey. I would think that there would have to be some sort of drivers + adapters in between to get a connection through with that setup.

You may want to go in the direction of doing a LocalTalk-to-Ethernet bridge and connect to your PC on the same local home network. The Farallon and Asante devices for the bridge seem not that hard to find.

A null modem cable can be made easily following the pin layout in the graphic´s upper right side.

I made such a Mac to PC null-modem in 1993. I used Dave Alverson´s ZTerm 0.85 on the Mac side.

No idea what was running on the PC/Amiga side though.

If I recall right, I got impressing 3600 Baud out of my connection. :)

Might be a good idea to try the null modem with real serial ports before moving on to USB adapters.

Looks like there is (was) something out there called "PC to Mac and Back":
