Mac Plus: file sharing over printer cable?

Hi fellow soldiers!

Is there something special that I may miss in my attempt to share files between my Plus and my PowerBook 1400 (general purpose, inter-generational bridge machine)?

I mean, I haven't played a lot with my Plus since I got it, because I tend to prefer my old and faithful SE for sentimental reasons. But I wanted to try our new toy browser6 on the Plus, so I hooked it up to the 1400 with a serial cable, but they can't see each other.

What bugs me is that I use the exact same setup than with the SE. Actually, I even used a clone of my SE's HD with System 6.0.7 on the Plus' external HD, because I previously only had a Sys 5.x on it.

So, since the Plus is the compact Mac I have the lowest knowledge of, my question is: is it able to do filesharing that way?

The setup and network software I used are well known to work on several other slightly younger machines, by the way (SE, Classic, IIcx).

Filesharing ON on both machines? Have you checked in the AppleTalk control panel on the PowerBook 1400 if the port selected is "Serial/Printer Port" instead of "Ethernet" (or something else)?

These are the first two things that come to mind...

Cheers

Also, on the desktop of the Plus click the hard drive icon then go to the File menu and select "Sharing", and tick the "Share this disk" box.

Thanks!

So, reading those answers I assume there is nothing special or particular about the Plus compared to later machines.

I had some electrical problems with that Plus in the past, so I'll have to check if the serial port is OK.

So we've got similar minds…  :beige:

Actually AppleTalk on the 1400 is still set to Ethernet, since it is my "virtual gateway" running LocalTalk Bridge to allow my oldies to get on the Wild Web.

But my guess is some kind of hardware failure, cause again I shared files between the 1400 and a SE minutes before, using the same boot hard drive with same settings.
