if you click on the apple,

Then about finder, you will see that it will show 20 mb of ram, but finder will appear as its eating up 12 mb of it.

If you install Mode 32, then you will gain use of all your ram.

Ah I see! I saw the 20Mb showing up in "about finder" but never checked to see what's using up what.

Now the machine is actually able to use all that lovely RAM.

Cheers!

The real reason your board was so dodgy was lack of tantalum use ;)

Just joshing - it's good for morale. Great job on reviving a very sad board!!

You can't see / use more than 8MB of RAM under system 6, since mode32 is needed, and system 6 can't run on 32-bit clean ROMs.

system 6 can't run on 32-bit clean ROMs.
Yes, it can! It runs on the IIfx and IIsi, which are 32 bit clean machines.
It won't operate in 32 bit mode, however, so 32 bit cleanliness doesn't make any difference with System 6.

Yeah just ordinary through-hole (or should that be thru-hole ;) ) tantalums, as I had a load of them lying around and didn't want to spend any money on my first recap..."sure it's not gonna work anyways :) ).

Besides I find them easier to solder in than the SMT ones.

Cheers :)

Not much time to mess with Macs at the moment...once the evenings get even darker / colder it'll be a different story hopefully!

I have (3) SE/30 boards here that all have the acting like there is no rom inserted issue.

i gotta find some time and figure it out... i know one of them, all the ROM tracks 000 ohm out good.
