Looking for a IDE 2.5 inch external case

It all started withe me blowing up a IDE 2.5 inch external case with firewire, USB and external power. I realize I came to depend on this case. It's so convenient if you tinker with lots of powerbooks and iBooks with IDE discs. I can't find a replacement on the second hand market. Lots of cases with only USB and no power supply but I want a case with all of the functionality of my old case.

My question: does anyone know of a place where they sell such cases? So with IDE, 2.5 inch, USB, FireWire and some kind of power supply. Preferably in Europe or a reseller that doesn't charge absurd amounts of money for postage and packaging?

In fact I bought a USB case with IDE but without a power supply. It does show up on my Mac Mini G4 but not on my Ibook clamshell (no firewire). I even tried a USB hub with power supply for the external case but no dice.

Help is very much appreciated.

If you want FireWire, at this point you're either going to have to get new old stock or second-hand - as far as I know, they no longer make the interface chips for it.

I know but I can't find one. And I want FireWire and USB because I use it on a lot of different Apple laptops.

Thanks. Not in the specifications but it has a power connection. This seems like the answer to my problem, but than I read some more of the specifications. It’s for a Sata disc and I’m looking for IDE/pata.

You can get cheap IDE to SATA adapters, obviously it’s not going to fit inside but it doesn’t sound like that is your aim.

You could also look for the original Wiebetech drive docks, seems there are a few on eBay but they are not cheap. Otherwise I think you’re back to buying secondhand drives and popping them open to see what’s inside and hoping they are old enough to be IDE and not SATA.

Not sure if there is any issue if it is SATA inside and not IDE, I have an old Lacie drive that connects with Usb 2, Firewire 400 and 800 that is powered from a wall ac adapter. I can check if it works with the Lamp iMac g4 I’ve got - surprisingly, I never got around to try it…
