Kensington TurboMouse 4.0 - Trackball

I've been meaning to ask this for about two years now...
I bought a Kensington TurboMouse 4.0 off of eBay a long time ago - It works fine but when I roll the trackball with any real speed or force in any direction other than towards the bottom left the ball lifts up a little bit (losing traction and just generally annoying. This means I need to be fairly deliberate about how I roll the trackball.
The ball itself looks to be a match - there is a bit of a border around the ball and the casing but not really any different than what I see from pictures online.

I have to assume this isn't normal but wanted to check.

My digital calipers show the ball has a diameter of 57.10mm.

Hopefully somebody else with a TurboMouse can provide some feedback.

Thanks!

I remember this exact issue when from when I first got one. The best resolution I found was to reduce the friction between the ball and the rollers (one mildly disgusting suggestion I read online was to rub the ball against a greasy patch of skin like your nose or forehead and then roll it between your hands for a minute,) which seemed to mostly eliminate the problem in honest use, but I could still reproduce a skip fairly easily if I tried.

Over the years since I imagine I've subliminally adjusted my grip to avoid encountering any skips because I still use it frequently and can't recall the last time I was annoyed about this.

There’s an optical sensor in both my (earlier, I think) Turbomousen which has to be clean; there’s also a capacitor, so you know what that means by this stage. Both mine had problems moving the cursor in one direction. One got fixed, and the other needs to go back to rehab, I’m afraid.
