Katheryn's Conquests!

Hello! Thought I'd start fresh with a new thread of my conquests.
This one is honestly a bit regretful but turned out to be more worth it in the end... I paid $140 for a Macintosh IIsi at a local computer shop in my area. It was in very nice condition, but the capacitors needed to be replaced on both the power supply and the motherboard. Painstakingly took the time to do this, and now it works perfectly! Heck, even the original 80MB quantum ProDrive LPS still works (for now) without me even having to open it. I do need to recap and lubricate the floppy drive still, along with replacing a broken gear. Other than that, now that I've repaired the computer using capacitors I already had on hand from various scrap electronics, I'm happier with my purchase. I do plan to install an 80 pin SCSI drive, though I'm not sure what adapter I'll need to use since I know it needs to have termination. I know there was one but I'm not sure if I can still get ahold of the person who sells them anymore.

The computer works like it's brand new, and I'll soon have the NuBus FPU card and a 50MHz oscillator so I can make this run faster.

Cool! PS. Dear admin, it'd be really nice just to be able to have a reaction field so we can just 'like' posts or whatever, like we can for status updates!

I guess the fact that I paid $140 for one that required all of the caps to be replaced. Thankfully it was cleaner than other systems I've seen with more severe leakage.

I'm almost of the opinion nowadays that I prefer to do recapping myself anyway, since I know the time/date, caps, and trust myself.

got it up and running yesterday with a working CD-ROM external drive that i put together with an old enclosure, an 8x applecd, and a scsi cable from a dead lacie enclosure (which i got rid of a long time ago... and the drive in there doesn't play well with 68k macs but it DOES still work) and i was able to test system 7.5.3... which ran slow, unsurprisingly. and the 120MB hard drive i have in there is showing its age... its slow (DUH!!) and the capacity is becoming inadequate if i wanted to add more to it... honestly i am just going to use A/UX 3.0.1 on here and have 7.5.3 on my performa 475 when i get the PSU replaced. someone replied to a thread i had with a mouser link to a nice replacement which i will definitely use to my advantage. also i will go more into detail about the IIsi onboard RAM upgrade i did in another thread

I would love to get a functional IIsi to test A/UX too.
About the storage device, you should go with a BlueSCSI v2. Also, there are premade images available with A/UX preinstalled to use with.
