Yes! Assembled my Franken-Pismo with parts from different places. Plugged it in, powered it on. BONG!

I used a HD with OS 9 on it, it booted right up. Was trying to get it on line with my Orinoco card and it says the password isn't right! (It works for all the other machines in the house.) But that's not the real puzzle.

All of a sudden it went black and there was this scary buzz/hum from inside. Took out the hard drive to see if that was what was causing it, that didn't work. Took out the processor, that didn't work. Sounds like it's coming from the power/charger board and I'll need to get another part. But wait! Unhooked the new PRAM battery, and the noise got a lot less, reduced to chirping. Then when I left it alone for a while and tried it again, the noise was gone. Part by part I put everything back, and now it's working fine. Beautiful screen, keyboard works but missing esc and F9. The processor was supposed to be without RAM, came with two 64 MB cards, I have replaced the lower one with 128.

When I'm sure it won't be doing anything else weird, I'll wipe the drive and put in Panther and 9 on partitions.

I have wanted a Pismo for quite a while. :D

yea, sometimes a pismo will do tht, just disconnect all power, including pram battery, then reconnect and power it up

That's a relief.

Right now I'm installing Panther including the upgrade to 10.3.9, on the big partition, and then 9.2 on the little one. Then the airport upgrade. then we'll see... [:D] ]'> [:D] ]'> [:D] ]'>

Poo. This morning I plugged it in and hit the button, and NOTHING. I wanted to add the Airport update and some fancy desktop pictures, maybe get it online with the wireless card. Heck. :p

Tried disconnecting the PRAM again and the keyboard. When I listen closely there's a very faint whine when it's plugged in but no bong. (sigh) :'(

pull the battery, disconnect the Pram battery, hold the reset button in for about 20 seconds (reset button is next to Modem plug in) plug in the AC adaptor and push in the start button. It should power up. If does not.

Do this. hold down the Option/Apple keys hit the power button and then hold down the p/r keys. hold them down until you hear the machine bong 3 times. Release them after the third bong and the machine should boot up.

A dead Pram battery will cause most of the issues you are experiancing. You can leave it disconnected and as long as you have a power source the machine will boot up. Recommended fixs are new or good used main battery or replace the Pram battery

I tried it with a battery and it booted right up. It's weird, there's no play in the power socket, it was working fine last night with just the power supply, and now it's as if it didn't see it.

I did already try the reset and the PRAM battery is brand new out of the plastic wrapper. It does hold date and time when Pismo is working.

I have hooked up everything that was unhooked. I hope this doesn't turn out to be a bad power board. (The one under the trackpad) That's more work. But I have already suspected it once.

If it does turn out to be a power board, I'll be interested in how you find the replacement process to be, because I think my Pismo may be suffering a very similar problem. (I'm also interested in how much you'd end up paying for the parts, because if I fix the pismo, I want to do it for pretty cheap. :p )

Hmmm...

Bethought myself that perhaps it was the power supply, it's always worked for me, but I have heard other people complain about the yo-yos. So I tried a black Apple power supply, and it's good again!

Now to try the yo-yo on other machines to see if it's dead or just not to the liking of this Pismo. [:)] ]'>

Psshh...

The yo-yo works on another machine, and now this one doesn't like the black power supply, either. So, back to flaky power. Still works great on battery, though. :-/
