IIvx question

I know for a fact it used a caddy-load drive, and it was a 2x unit, but I don't have the name of the mechanism offhand.

I'd check on my IIvx, but I have the low-end model without a CD-ROM...

Sony CDU-561-25. The ones I have were pulled from a IIvx and a Performa 600. It is a caddy load 2X drive. This drive is commonly referred to as the "Apple CD 300i".

In terms of face plates, only the Centris 650, IIvx, and Performa 600 used the slot loading drives. The Quadra 650 might have, or they switched to tray load by then. The Powermac 7100 used the same case, but came exclusively with a tray loading CD-ROM. Any tray loading Sony SCSI Cd-ROM drive will work with that faceplate. Also be aware that to mount the drive in that case you need drive sleds.
