IIGS high speed scsi

Finally snagged a high speed SCSI card for the IIGS. Stoked can't wait to play some iigs games. Have to wait now for the delivery!

Congrats! It's a must have for the IIGS! That and a Bluescsi (or your favorite - zigzagjoe's tinyscsi is amazing too!) makes loading things a breeze.

Welcome to the club. Have had one for about a year. Installed it in the temporary machine I had before my old machine returned, then moved it to the old IIgs after I got that computer home. Just FYI, if you do boot the machine with no SCSI drive hooked up, there will be a 5-10 second delay before it checks the floppy drives for disks. So, it may seem like the machine has frozen, but it actually is normal.

I must agree, adding a SCSI card to an Apple IIgs is a brilliant move...as is some extra RAM.

Ended up purchasing two cards from GGLabs...an original Apple SCSI card...WAYYYYY too expensive now. One went into the IIgs with an Applied Ingenuity Inner Drive 20 [integrated power supply and hard drive, which is not SCSI] and one of these cards. Best of both worlds there...and the other, pictured, just a vanilla IIgs with the SCSI card and an external BlueSCSI v2 neatly tucked inside....the sleeper IIgs. =D. Of course, this setup does kill using external SCSI devices, but that's OK -- three drives [two 32MB ProDOS, one for the active GS/OS startup, one for a backup of the spinning platter drive in the other IIgs and one 500MB HFS drive for storage].

This little setup has worked out quite nicely. What was the uphill climb, finding a good set of GS/OS disk images to get things fully installed and patching disks with the needed GGLabs driver. Once that was done, let the fun begin!

Ok, card game today. I did order a full set of floppies but now i am impatient lol.. so, I have an external scsi drive or two laying around. Can i format it on say a se/30, color classic to the correct partition for iigs? I found some bootable images online. Just curious!

I have the normal Apple SCSI card in one of my IIgs systems and I like the ability to use external drives.

SCSI + extra RAM + Transwarp + GS/OS make a IIgs a little bit like a slow Mac and you only need a few thousand for it.

The Apple SCSI cards use drives with Apple Partition Map. You could partition them that way if needed, with ProDOS partitions of course. You can't make them bootable on a Mac though. If someone has an image file of a IIgs hard drive with partitions, you could dd it onto the drive.
