As long as they have a regular PPC 750 CPU they can be upgraded, If you open one up and tell me then number on the CPU i'll be able to tell you for sure :)

@max they've got a PPC 750cx.

@cc for some reason, I am struggling to get it to boot on leopard. I believe the graphics drivers for the non-firewire models are missing from 10.5.

Ahh, cx is no good. They have a 256 pin package rather than the 360 pin package used by the 750/7400/7410

What about the iBook "SE" (which is, essentially, a normal first-gen clamshell with graphite plastics and a Firewire port)? Anyone know if that has a normal 750 in it?

@cc- Nope, the "SE" is the 466MHZ model and they had to switch to the 750cx model Macs. I would love to see a lime g4 clamshell, but that doesn't seem doable.

M2453 300MHz: PPC 750, Blueberry or Tangerine

M2453 366MHz SE: PPC 750, Graphite

M6411 366MHz: PPC 750CX, FireWire, Indigo or Key Lime

M6411 466MHz SE: PPC 750CX, FireWire, Graphite or Key Lime

If one could hack a M2453's logic board into a M6411 case, you could have a Lime G4. (without FireWire)

@CC_333, the 366MHz SE model has a 750, so it should take a 7410 the same way the original 300MHz model does, but it doesn't have FireWire. (See above)

Wait, we can put a G4 in these? :D   I picked up a tangerine model.  I would be slightly interested in how that is done.  I thought the CPU was soldered onto the logic board with the clamshells?  And even if it does fit, it won't melt into the case from the extra heat?

rsolberg, I just spent the past 20 minutes reading that entire thread... I don't even know what to say :O .  Definitely some impressive stuff going on over there.

Haha here I am a bit on the nervous side about doing my first recap in the next week or two ;D .

I think I will keep my iBook at the stock CPU... If anyone figures out how to swap a 1024 x 768 display panel into the 300mhz iBooks, let me know :cool:

Well done. 100 iBooks. I wish I'd seen this earlier as my graphite iBook would love an orange friend  :beige:

This was quite a necropost, but I’m kind of glad since the photos at the top of the post were pretty epic. I’m so glad these got saved

Just so everyone's aware, this thread was originally posted almost four years ago and the original poster hasn't replied to it in three years.
