How does one clean a Mac carrying bag?

The light brown fabric one with a canvas look, and with hefty zippers.

What's a good way of cleaning the fabric?

Did you get the one that just sold on Ebay germany? If so, congrats, but it was a tad to dirty for my taste. Pricey, too!

I would just fill the tub with warm water and clothing soap and wash it a bit. Then, to get it dry, i would use a ventilator/fan. You want to get it to dry as fast as possible!

I second the dry cleaning as it will shrink or shrivel, just plain not be as sturdy or as soft.

No, it's not one from Germany. It's in good condition, but not all it should be.

I'll look into dry cleaning, although now I'm tempted to leave it alone fearing the worst. It's still quite usable.

Thought there might be an effective minimally invasive spray and vac type solution.

Thanks.

You might try some automotive upholstery cleaner, the kind you spray on foamy then scrub with a towel and wipe off. I've cleaned similar bags by running them through a gentle cycle in my front load clothes washer with no problems, but YMMV. If you take it to a dry cleaner or fabric shop, somebody can probably offer cleaning suggestions.

I'd also suggest the dry cleaner.

OR, I'd be tempted to use an upholstery cleaner. I have a Bissell Little Green that I use for vehicle seats and stuff, works great. Costs about $100.

I found out that the dry cleaners won't touch them due to their awkward size. So I used warm soapy water and a sponge, and cleaned the hell out of them. Not only did it clean them, but they smelled a lot nicer afterwards too.

I purchased a compact Mac off EBAY once, and it came with a soft case. Man, did that case stink. My wife was going to kill me. What some people do in their homes is just frightful! What I did was put the hottest water possible in a bath tub and I used hefty amounts of clothing detergent (strongest I could find). I also used a scrub brush on all sides and inside the pockets too. I then hung it out to dry. It didn't harm the case at all. But sadly my first try didn't get out that stink. So I repeated my wash and finally it came out smelling decent. There was leather on the handles and that hardened up a little after the dual washes, but it's not so hard it will crack. Overall, the case looks great and the stinking "I lived like a pig in heat" odor is now gone.

Suffice it to say, if you have compact Macs, keep them in a clean place and keep your slobbish living far away from them!

You seem to be assuming that it was stored in their home and not in say ... a barn.
