Wow, this is truly an excellent idea for those with dying or dead hard disks. How is it mounted internally?

well its pretty simple.

I had to use a longer scsi cable.

I had to remove that rear rectangular bracket, 3 screws hold it on.

Then for mounting i use a big bloch of GOOP e6600 or plumbers its all the same, best stuff ever

On the top/middle/rearish of the floppy cage,

Sat the drive on top,

Put the rear back on, used some needle nose to align the zip drive,

Then let it sit for about 3-4 hours and presto, good to go.

I can snap a pic of it later today.

 Nice hack, uni! The SE front bezel is a tough one to do.

Does it leave room to hack a Trayloader Panel out of the front side?)

On a serious note: I wonder if there's just enough room left inside for an SE/30 CardStack to sneak past it?

Is there enough room inside (and power from the AB) to have a little SCSI boot HDD on top of the Zip?

yes but it would have to be sat on the zip , and would have to be mounted/gooped horizontally across the middle of zip drive,

(right between the tube and the video board)

I have a Molex Y adaptor in there right nowjust incase I decided to do such a thing :)

and I'v already set the ZIP SCSI ID to 3. to avoid ID conflicts.

Should be some room for a pds card, it would have to be a shorter one to clear the horizontally mounted HD (if installed)

Very interesting. Will the single FDD height cage from a Plus position the FDD correctly in the SE/SE/30?

If it will you can likely fab a mounting plate for the Zip and a 2.5" SCSI Drive with little or no problem, that'd be easier and get rid of the angle.

I assume the hole through which the ZIP drive sticks was already there as an expansion socket, otherwise it's not exactly "Hackwhine FREE". If so, then I definately :approve: :approve: of someone finding a way around the main Hackwhine issue.

Some proper mounting would be ideal, but i have no idea how you would get the drive spaced in the rear hole properly with out using goop

goop gives me that universal / adjusted custom fit.

its in there nice and snug too.`

Superb mod there!! It even follows Apples current design philosophy of reach around behind the machine to put an SD card in the back of an iMac.

If/when I get a spare SCSI Zip drive, I'll definitely have to follow your lead on this.

Cheers!
