Getting a PowerBook 1400cs! I have some questions

Just won this Powerbook 1400cs. You can see in the 4th picture that the power supply is in pretty bad shape and is probably not safe to use. Will an Apple Yo Yo adaptor model M7332 work with this machine? I don't have one but the Yo Yo adaptors seem to be cheap. This is the 1400cs with the passive-matrix screen. Would it be possible to swap out the LCD panel for the active-matrix screen in the 1400c? Is the M3592 floppy drive the one that was originally included with this machine? What OS would you recommend? I have a legit OS 9.0 CD, but that's it. I'm hoping it has the original System 7.5.2 install since this machine will be used to make 800k disks. What is the largest hard drive I can use in this machine? How would I set up a localtalk network between this machine and my Macintosh Plus?

I can answer some of this... Yo yo adapter is fine. You can swap screens but far easier to do with swapping the screen/top case assembly than taking apart the top case. See if you can find a whole assembly. Best OS is 8.1 or 8.6; 9 runs but is very slow. 8.6 allows use of a wi-fi (orinoco) card. 7.5 and 7.6 really fly on it. I think you can put a 6gb drive in it without problems. My ones still have the original 2gb drives. You can also run from flash memory cards to run the OS. Ram is now very hard to find, batteries all pretty much dead unless re-celled. These run ok with at least 32mb ram but obviously run a lot better with 64. You should still be able to find the floppy module or it may come with it? I have several, can check the part number if you need. The lack of usb is annoying but flash cards work well for storage.

It comes with a M3592 floppy drive. It would be great if you could check the part number for me.

I have owned 3 of these awesome machines...9 does run slow, 8.6 is the way to go. Get an Orinoco WaveLan Card or Dell TrueMobile, and get moving.

It was shipped out yesterday is and scheduled to be here tomorrow. I also ordered another genuine M4896 power supply, the exact mode this 1400cs comes with, since the included one is in bad shape. What model of the Dell TrueMobile? There are a ton of models.

The PowerBook arrived today! Turns out it has a 200MHz Sonnet G3 upgrade. It's running OS 9.1 with 64MB of RAM. Came with a 12X CD ROM which works great. Even got a free 720KB floppy in the floppy drive!

Great! Get that power supply and you will be all set!

Be aware that either of the wireless card will only work with basic (WEP) tyoe network security.

I tried once to get the 1400 hooked by 3com ethernet adapter, and I gave up. Can be done but "harder than it sounds." The Orinoco hook was actually easier, as long as you are connecting to an open or only WEP protected network.

Had a hard time getting it to turn on with the included power supply but once I got it turned on it worked great. Takes about 2 minutes to boot up OS 9.1 but once it's booted up it works great. The new power supply will be here Monday. Will I still be able to run System 7 without the original processor?
