Si I picked up a G4 1.42 dual on ebay with 2 gb memory, 80gb hdd. So I install 500 gb, 250GB, and 2- 40gbhdd's. I picked it up on ebay for 299.00 + 15.00 shipping (got a coupon on ebay for 1/2 shipping) my question is compared to G5 how long do you think I can keep this going? I have a Color Classic with a presto plus in it and it still is good but surfing the internet is dogg slow...

That is still a very capable machine, especially since you've maxed out the RAM. What graphics card are you running in it?

For internet browsing, emailing, using older photoshop versions, light gaming, light digital video work, the dual G4's are still good. Should keep you going for quite a while.

I'm useing the original video card but I plan on upgrading. I have a Dell Dimension e521 but I hate windows, I work on windoz all day...

I'm putting the dell on ebay without hdd and memory.

I also have a emac 1.25 it is good I like it I have 1.5gb memory and 160gb hdd and a external 500gb hdd for it

And I have a color classic with a external cd and a presto plus inside. i put that on the internet throught the g4 with internet sharing...

As you can tell I Love Mac's....

The 9700 Pro was a great card for the PC, should be great for a mac too.

What do you think of that Presto Plus in the Color classic? I have a Presto plus in a LC 550 and was wondering if a CC would be better for it.

^^does it have the LC040 or the full 040 with FPU. I'd stick it in the CC, the speed boost and extra RAM will make it a sweet little machine.

As for the OP's question, the 9700 is a nice card and would work great in the Dual G4.

Speaking of Photoshop...

I don't think that would be a problem, even CS4 should be able to run fairly well if my experiences with it on Windows machines translate over (I'm running it on my EeePC 1000 (1.6ghz Atom dual core with 2gb RAM) and it runs fine, and fast enough to do pretty much anything as long as it isn't a constant string of filters.

I use my QS 1ghz DP as a webserver, but before I got my Mac pro I used it daily - it was plenty capable in leopard!

My presto plus in the CC worked fine. But as stated I sold My CC on ebay... just too many computers on my desk... I kept my G4 Dual 1.42 and got rid of everything else.. the CC, eMac and the dell peecee... I have a TB storage in my G4 so that is gonna last me... [:D] ]'>

G4s in (most) any form are great machines. I'm still rocking out with a dual 500MHz G4 tower as my main desktop, happily chugging away at Leopard. My main portable is also a PowerBook G4, running Leopard like a little champ. So yes, I'd say you can expect a good, long life from your G4. Enjoy :D

I bought a raedon 9700 off of ebay. it's alot faster than the stock video card. but its basically a radeon 9800 but with less memory. for 89.00 it wasnt a bad deal.... I'm happy with it... and my G4 is alot faster...
