Basically you remove 4 screws, grab the bottom and pull, Slides open and stops. If you want to pull

the drawer completely out, you hold down the latch on the lower left hand side, and all the guts just slide out.

I like this feature.

Any other Mac's open up like that?

Mcdermd was the one that enlighten me on the lower left side latch, to remove the drawer from the chassis.

If anyone else would like a G3 AIO, I still have a few left.

The price is 80 bucks /WO scsi zip drive.

120 Bucks /W scsi zip drive.

55 bucks shipping, incl's insurance.

Again these are the fastest AIO Model ever made (G3 266mhz)

/W Video in and out, Screen Rez (1024x768)

(PM me if interested)

I don't know about any other Macs that open up like that but I always liked the G3 AIO's back when I was in school. Always reminded me of a big tooth!

The older AIOs all the way back to the Color Classic have the same slide-out arrangement (LC/Performa 520, 550, 5400, 5500 etc) and the tower/desktops that share the same motherboards (LC/Performa 630, 6200, 6500 etc).

I'm enamored of the MonsterMac's deep dish drawer with upright PCI slots and A/V I/O panel. AFAIK it's unique, given these features.

If I could get my hands on one of those it'd wind up in ANYTHING but that fine example of the most awful piece of Apple's Industrial Design ever.*

* Given that it's the only semi-traditional AIO with a 17" CRT and specifically designed for education channel, not public release, most of my original misgivings about it have been forgiven. It's actually a very good form factor/industrial design for that niche market, but the first time I saw one, I thought somebody at my kid's High School had stuck Apple logos on some WinTel pile-o-poo.

It is clearly in the broad design trajectory, as well as the market niche, of the Color Classic and the LC500-series. Opinions differ on the aesthetic merits of all these machines.

Don't forget the 5200-5600 series destined for crossover Consumer/Ed Markets, but those won a spot in the MoMa Industrial Design Collection.

I'd say the MolarMac is the direct G3 B&W, if monochrome, translucent AIO descendant of that award winning series. The added functionality precluded elegance of design, as it should in its case, making it far less likely to be stolen, from perspective of sheer weight as well as the odd appearance.

Different strokes for different folks . . . but somebody beat that sucker unmercifully with an ugly stick!)

The way the G3 molar mac opens up is way different then any of those other mac's mentioned,

Everything is connected to this drawer that slides out, its not just a mobo that slides out like the others.

literally it slides out just so far and stops, just like a filing cabinet. If you want to remove it completely you, remove the ATX looking power plug from the mobo, and one molx, Then press on a latch on the left hand side,

the whole thing comes out, with every component attached.

Upgrading a G3 AIO, pretty cool website, he put a Sonnet 500mhz G4 cpu in his

Huh, ok, I stand corrected. I didn't realise the extent of the removable componentry was so comprehensive. And I can definitely see a family resemblance between that tray and the G3 iMac's removable sled assembly thingummer.

So I have two of these. That Zip drive is scsi but is 40 dollars really what they cost? Of course I need one but not in a rush.

Best price I could find for a scsi zip 100 was $120 bucks.

Plus I had to drive 1200 miles round trip for these AIO's plus iMacs load.

I saw a whole g3 aio system sell for over 400 on epay about 5 - 6 weeks ago

They talked about it on retromaccast.

I always try to as fair as possible.
