In case you have a trackball of type 'Microspeed MacTRAC Deluxe' you might miss the appropriate control panel software. The device is operational without specific software, but the control panel allows customised use of the three buttons and setting of two separate tracking speed ranges, to be toggled on demand.
The manufacturer Clearlysuperiortech has dicontinued the ADB-flavour of this product line (SUN, USB and PS/2 still available). The former manufacturer Microspeed does not exist anymore.
A working download link for the MacTRAC control panel still is available at http://www.rjcooper.com/sam-trackball/index.html
Mr. Cooper provides version 3.4.0b of the software. I tested it to work well with Mac OS 8.1 on a P475. Comments are welcome
http://www.clearlysuperiortech.com does provide parts for this long lasting devices, still.
