Desktop Pictures on compacts

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for suggestions for the best way to get a black and white compact mac to display a desktop picture under System 7.1.

This is not my picture, but I'd like the final result to look something like this SE:

I found a guide here, but it requires System 7.5:

Any suggestions as to how to accomplish the same feat under 7.1?

The guide I linked to claims the Decor doesn't work on black-and-white Macs.  Haven't tried it yet though.

I'll experiment when I bring my SE/30 back from my parent's house later this week.

The minimum requirements were a 7.1, 2MB and an '030, so it should work with the SE/30.  Let us know how it turns out.

What're the minimum system requirements for GraphicConverter? I don't remember when I started using it, but it's the bomb for this and light duty pixel punching.

From the documentation file that comes with GraphicConverter 1.62:

1.2.    Requirements
GraphicConverter needs a Mac II (or LC), System 7 and 2 MB free memory.

I would assume that Mac II or LC means that it wants a 68020 or better.

From the documentation file that comes with GraphicConverter 3.3:

GraphicConverter needs a Mac with Color Quickdraw, System 7 or later and 3 MB (4 MB on a Power Macintosh) of free memory.

So, I would imagine it would run on an SE/30.

I use Backdrop on my SE and Plus. Works great there under 6.0.8, and okay on 7.1. With 7.1 the desk accessory to control it doesn't work 100%, but you can work around that by only putting the image you want to use in the Screens folder and storing the others in a different folder.

Backdrop doesn't seem to work properly on my se/30. When I move windows around on the screen it messes up the photo behind where the menu bar was located at.

Decor is great for 030, 040 and early PPC Macs.

No problem on B&W, used it on a Pwb 145 a couple of days ago, worked flawlessly.
