DayStar PowerPro 601 still in shrink wrap

Pretty surprised I was able to get this. A DayStar ProwerPro 601 upgrade for 68040 Macintosh's.

It's still in the original shrink wrap, never opened.

I asked the seller where they got it and they said their husband passed and was a videographer, left a lot of stuff, including this. So I guess it was purchased at some point, maybe new, and never got around to using it.

I almost hate to open it.

Its the 100MHz version too :) congratulations.

Where they really shine is floating point performance. It might be worth having a play with some 3D software like Infini-D or an early version of Bryce.

Daaaang this is awesome - congrats! I also always feel weird about buying sealed vintage gear, my heart is torn between preserving it as-is vs. opening it and trying it out. Given that I have a Quadra 950, I think I'd have to break this open, but it would hurt a little!

Look at it this way: if you use it and tell us about your hijinks, you'll already have recouped the cost of purchase already :)

Where did you find it?

One should be able to carefully cut the shrinkwrap along one end of the box to make a flap, slide it partially off, then carefully open the box to look at its contents, remove it, etc., then re close the box and carefully slide it back into the shrinkwrap.

This I do even with some new shrinkwrapped stuff (iPhone boxes, DVD boxed sets, etc), because not only can the shrinkwrap still protect the box's labels, eventually they may become collectable?
