Damaged ROM SIMM Socket on SE/30

A Simasimac-ed SE/30 found it's way to me recently. When I opened it up for the first time, I found that the ROM SIMM was *loose inside the case*. The retention tabs on the ROM SIMM socket have broken off.

 Any recommendations for next steps? I'm comfortable doing the rework of replacing the SIMM socket, but I haven't been able to find a source for the part. Other ideas?

@Bolle came up with a great solution for a set of 16MB SIMMs, but I don't have a link handy. I've got a busted socket to fix at some point too. It seems Apple didn't have the market all to itself when it came to Spindly plastics.

edit: coming up with a new, dual install method 16MB SIMM design with thruhole for RA header strip setup comes to mind. Edgecard connector "teeth" and traces to those thruholes could be deleted and an alternate router path for making the PCBs smaller would net more boards within the 10x10 SEEED Square. Card thickness hassles involved no more and a larger PCB compatible with  headspace availability in the SE/30 become interesting possibilities.

I have done a ROM SIMM like this once:

RAM SIMMs are easier, as your standard cheap chinese pin headers fit their 2.54mm pitch:

That's more of a permanent solution though. :evil:

OOPSIE! Misread the topic, as I just said in another thread, my brain state it "moosh" ATM.

Is there enough head room in the SE/30 to install sockets for the soldered on header hack? I've got socket/header combos in that pitch, they've got a considerably lower profile than SIMM headers would. You'd want to use GG-Lab knockoffs of dougg3's original socketed ROM card for a programmable solution.

I have a small supply of the 64 pin sockets on hand.  I also have 30 pin vertical sockets with metal clips.   PM me if that will help.   Also, if you're recapping your logic board, you may wish to take a look at my stickied posting in "The Trading Post".

Here it is, a picture is worth a thousand words, I have managed to dream up a little clip that will go over the rom simm and over the broken socket like a collar. I have already repaired a couple of logic boards with these clips.

Thanks for all the help and info! I'm going to declare (short term) victory on this project - I was able to use a rubber band to hold the SIMM in. Once I got it situated correctly, the system bonged!

I'm thinking about making a new ROM PCB that'd work with headers soldered in place of the SIMM socket, since it sounds like those will be hard to source longer-term. Would that be a worthwhile project?

I have two SE/30 motherboards with damaged "Dual 30 Pin SIMM Socket Vertical" RAM (not ROM) slots, and I cannot seem to find a source. Anyone who can volunteer a pointer? I am so much better at soldering than I am at sourcing parts ;-)
