Color Classic

FOR FREE!

Well, mostly. It came across the LEM swap list as a free Color Classic and Centris 650, pick up only in North Carolina. My buddy Brian lives in NC and was gracious enough to meet up with the owner and ship it out to me.

Looks pretty good on the outside but it seems that every late-80s/early-90 compact I've had recently has capacitors that have leaked all over. Luckily there was no board damage on this one and replacing them seems to have brought it back from the dead.

Also found a stack of old Mac stuff in the attic at work including a copy of MacTools/CopyIIMac with manual and a the MacPaint booklet/manual:

Congrats, I really like my color classic. I got it for $2 dollars at a yard sale back in 2003, it had a dead hard drive at that time. Even came with a stylewriter and the original manual.

This is my second. Other than maxing the RAM to 10MB and adding a LC-PDS LAN card, I'm going to leave it bone stock as my other one is a full '040 Mystic/640x480 conversion with 68MB RAM and a 2GB HDD running OS 8.1.

Any thoughts on the best version of System 7 to use?

7.1, the one that came with it. Anything higher is very very slow. That 16 bit LC bus is not blazing fast.
