classic wont work with memory card installed

I have a classic here that gives me a checkerboard screen after power on when the memory expansion card is installed, with or without Simms installed. The jumper is even set approprietly. The memory board doesn't seem to be the issue either, I tested it in another classic.

I did recap the board, twice. Once with electrolytics and now with tantalums and no change.

Searched the board for open traces both with magnification and with the meter, also checked and tested vias, nothing open from what I can tell.

This board was acting flakey before the 're cap, sometimes working with the memory card, other times not. So I did the 're cap and now nothing at all. Any ideas?

i would wash the classic board... wash it with hot soapy water and a tooth brush,  then rinse, and compressor dry off.

the other question is the memory card an apple one or from another company?

i'v had issues with some memory cards before, causing some of the same kinda thing.  I think Scott Barret had pretty much the same issue,  He had multiple memory cards to try.

but the Mac Classic... and the Mac Classic II and the Color Classic.... these boards almost always NEED to be washed after a re-cap in order to work again.

Its just how it is.
