Classic | start-up error | barking up the right tree?

I bought a classic yesterday, mainly as a spare screen for my SE/30, but thought I could attempt to repair the machine itself. It gives me a startup error, and I'm wondering a) if I'm correctly interpreting the error code, and b) if something from this thread would be the way to go about properly diagnosing and repairing:

Sorry for the quasi-cross-post from my conquests thread:

I'm using the page below as a guide to the errors, specifically the Power On section near the end of the first third of the article.
https://web.archive.org/web/20080128023139/http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=7748

If I'm reading it correctly, the 0003 error is

The RAM test failed while testing bank B, after passing the chunk tested for code $0002.

And the next line is "which bits failed" 00000002 (assuming)

The first small chunk of RAM to be tested failed. The Z field indicates which RAM Bit(s) failed.
This small chunk of RAM is always in Bank B. Using $AABBCCDD as a guide:
AA=8 bit mask for bits 31-24
BB=8 bit mask for bits 23-16
CC=8 bit mask for bits 15-8
DD=8 bit mask for bits 7-0

With the RAM expansion card out, I can only assume (if it's a memory check failure) that the motherboard RAM is to blame, hence my reference to the thread above. I might be way off here, so please point me in the right direction.

I know that the Classic is essentially a Plus with some variation and I'm also aware that the above Power On error table is listed underneath the SE/II ROM error section. But if my Classic's error is not interpreted by that chart, I'm at a loss as how to interpret it, so some guidance there would be helpful. Hence my thread title :)

Thanks
