Cannot open .sit files in miniVmac

I've tried some different methods to transfer a .sit file from Macintosh Garden on my MacBook Pro to my Macintosh SE/30. I have read several posts from different websites that discuss moving files from internet websites to a classic Macintosh and many of them were written a few years ago and contained some devices/applications that I do not have. A few do discuss using FloppyEmu.

First, I have tried using the FloppyEmu method: 1) In minVmac I have created a blank 1.4MB disk, 2) booted a System 6.0.8 System Tools disk image in miniVmac, 3) mounted the blank 1.4 MB disk image, 4) mounted the ImportFl 1.2.2 disk image, 5) launched ImportFl app, 6) dragged the .sit file onto the miniVmac ImportFl window, 7) Selected the blank 1.4 MB disk image as the file location, 8) ImportFl shows "Done", 9) Unmounted now_not_blank 1.4 MB disk in miniVmac, 10) transferred the now_not_blank 1.4 MB disk image to my FloppyEmu SD card, 11) Attached FloppyEmu to Mac SE/30 disk port, 12) booted up Mac SE/30 running System 7.1 with Stuffit Deluxe 4.0 installed, 13) Selected now_not_blank 1.4 MB disk image on FloppyEmu LCD screen, 14) now_not_blank 1.4MB disk appears on Mac SE/30 desktop, 15) Copy the .sit file from now_not_blank 1.4MB disk to the Mac SE/30 desktop, 16) Launch Stuffit Expander 4.0 and cannot see the .sit file when Desktop location is selected and cannot expand .sit file

Second, I have tried expanding .sit file in miniVmac using a HD20 80MB image with system 7.1 method: 1) booted System 7.1 HD20 80MB disk image in miniVmac, 2) installed Stuffit Deluxe 3.5.2 on the HD20 80MB disk image, 3) mounted the ImportFl 1.2.2 disk image, 4) launched ImportFl app, 5) dragged the .sit file onto the miniVmac ImportFl window, 6) Selected the Desktop as the file location, 8) ImportFl shows "Done", 9) Launch Stuffit Expander 3.5.2 and cannot see the .sit file when Desktop location is selected and cannot expand .sit file. Have not been able to get to where I have a set of files to transfer to my Mac SE/30.

Not sure why these methods are not working.

Probably just a simple matter of creator/filetype set incorrectly.

Use ResEdit or an analog to set creator to SITx and type to SIT!

More than likely if you’re downloading on macOS 10.6 or higher they’re going to be set to something like Ttxt and TEXT.

Just going by memory here, but if the above creator/type doesn’t work there’s another one StuffIt recognizes. SITd or something.

Thank you. Using ResEdit to 'Get File/Folder Info' for the .sit file on my Mac SE/30 I was able to change the Type from BINA to SIT!. The Creator was already set to SITx. I then Saved this change. I was able to double-click on the .sit file and StuffIt Expander was able expand the .sit file to separate file folder with the application in the folder. The application appears to run correctly.
