Best Practices for Modern USB Keyboard Repair?

My father goes through a lot of keyboards. Most are USB since the wireless ones get to be annoying having to either charge them (with a USB cable so, um, why bother being "wireless"?) or change batteries all the time. A couple are Apple keyboards; others are MacAlly or other relatively inexpensive brands.

The problem is that he usually ends up spilling coffee or diet soda on them.

Sometimes, the keys just end up sticky. Other times, well, sometimes they work for a while and then sometimes they don't work but then they'll maybe work again. Ugh.

Typically, he ends up having to buy a new keyboard. I sometimes wish we had expanded our business into selling office supplies because then maybe we could have just bought keyboards in bulk at wholesale and saved some money.

Anyway, I just wonder what people have had the best results with insofar as cleaning and repairing keyboards after a spill. Or are they frequently just a lost cause?

I usually use 91% isopropyl alcohol to try to rinse out any spills. Also have tried water once or twice. In both cases, I let them dry out completely before trying to plug them in and use them again.

Does anyone have any other suggestions or ideas?
