Apple PowerCD - SCSI Power Mystery

I have this Apple PowerCD, which is a SCSI CD-ROM drive that doubles as a an audio CD player. Now the problem is I do not have the base which connects into the 25-pin SCSI port. This base contains a AC adapter port and a bay for holding six AA-size batteries.

So I'm trying to figure out how it sends power through the SCSI port. Since I don't have the base I'm going crazy trying to figure this out. The PowerCD has a male SCSI port, not a female one. I remember plugging that directly into a Mac and nothing happening, although my unit could be dead.

So I assume the base did something, or sent power signals through certain pins on the SCSI port. I opened the device up and took some photos of the insides, however due to my novice electronic "tracing" abilities I couldn't seem to figure out which pins of the SCSI port the power goes through. There is no other connection from the base to the unit, so it must be the SCSI port.

Does anybody have any more information or ideas about this? I'm curious of how this got power so maybe I can create an adapter and turn it on. Thanks! [:D] ]'>

The only way to get power to it is via the base, which has a port for an AC adaptor. That DB-25 port is not a "real" SCSI port as far as I'm aware - it carries both data and power, and actually doesn't carry any SCSI data at all, if I'm correct.

I'm sorry, but you really have no alternative but to hunt down a base unit. And no, you can't have mine. ;)

Maybe you can take it apart and trace which pins cary the power? [:D] ]'>

Then I could rig it up with a 6 AA battery holder or an AC plug. Of course if you don't want to take it apart that's fine. I'm just curious of how I could ever get this thing to work without paying a bunch for another PowerCD. ::)

I have taken it apart once, but I'd prefer to really not take it apart again if I don't have to, I'm sorry. :p
