Hey, got a Performa 630CD off of Craigslist recently, the original owner even maxed out the RAM and had literal boxes of software and manuals and books. One of the few things I can fault about this is that the original mouse for the system is jerky in certain directions, it feels like it's getting caught up on the rollers inside. It's not quite unusable, but I'm very grateful for the trackball that also came with the computer. 

But I'd like to get the original mouse working better. What resources are there as far as service manuals or cleaning instructions or anything community made for this mouse, model M2706? Obviously it's not hard to get the little ball out, but are there other mechanisms I should look at and clean?

Take out the ball and clean the gunk & lint off the rollers & ball.

Use a sharp, thin knife (like an Exacto) to carefully scrape off the gunk and tweezers to remove the lint.

Should fix your problem unless one of the roller mounts is broken, which happens sometimes and should be obvious once you pop out the ball.

I learned to try using a pencil eraser first, then an X-Acto as a last resort.  (Though, sometimes, since I work in a print shop, an X-Acto was more readily available than a pencil.)  I think another method was to use a Q-tip wettened with some rubbing alcohol, but only on plastic, not rubber rollers.

If you must use a knife, use the blunt side gently, not the sharp side.  It's not too hard to gouge a sliver off the roller with the sharp side.
