Not one, but two of my four rectangular ADB mice have bad cables. Seem to be a broken wire by the strain relief. Has anyone ever found a suitable replacement that doesn't look hacked?

Never mined missed the ADB

I have a cable that is listed as unknown not tested. It has the separate klick switch

Open it up, chop back the bad wiring, resolder/reattach

It's in the gray part of the cable though, BEFORE the strain relief. If I cut it and solder, 1., the cord will be a few inches shorter, and 2., there will be no strain relief, and will look kind of hacked/odd. Was hoping there was some sort of cable I could swap it out with.

Edit: looked at one closer. Almost looks like the strain relief is not part of the cable, and might be able to be moved. I'll look closer tomorrow.

The strain relief is often loose, or you could cut away and drill out the centre for replacement

I can confirm that it can be separated - or slid further along the cable. I too had a "wedge" ADB mouse that suffered cable damage. I was able to free the strain relief and move it past the damage, then reconnect the cable inside the mouse. That mouse has ended up being my bench test mouse, since there's not so much cable to get in the way now... 😀
