An SE FDHD is arriving tomorrow. Questions for you

Like Uniserver says, you might be able to put this one together again from its parts. If it turns on, at best you would need a new case/bazel. At worst, you may need to replace the crt and analog board.

Got pics to post?

Maybe we can get this sad puppy howling again!

Yeah I would but I'm returning it on Ebay.  $187 for an SE FDHD that is smashed up is a little steep, and I'd rather get my $ back at this point.   My goal is just to be able to use Floppy Emu and run some of my old favorites (Shadowgate, try out some older OS's, etc).   Part of me would love a Mac II with 1.44mb drive as an alternative.  I'd rather just have something that works.

Well if you need an SE, I have a ton of them. Okay, maybe a half-ton since I sold a few.

Yesitsme, you contacted the seller and sent him pics? I do understand your situation however.

Yeah, I remember Unity and a couple others bought a lot of Mac SEs... Damn... forgot about that!

the mac II is kinda of a beastly machine,  I like how they come with ASC, Apple Sound Chip.

I can play my assortment of Down Mixed MP3 --> AIF with it.   :)

The portable has an ASC too...  witch is nice...  the 128/512/plus/se/fdhd/classic do not have ASC's

Yeah.  Ebay has sent me a free shipping label.

I'd like to see pictures of the box / packing. Did eBay send you a shipping label or did the seller?

Hopefully he atleast insured the darn thing.

Almost no packing material inside though
Been there, done that.  Had a Color Classic shipped to me in a box just slightly larger than the machine itself with a single (!!!) piece of bubble wrap put inside the box on the top of the case.  Needless to say, when it arrived the case was absolutely destroyed.  While the box you got does look a bit battered and beaten it also appears it wasn't a very strong box to begin with (or it got wet).

Add another voice to the chorus on shipping.  If you need to ship big stuff, go FedEx (they also sell really nice double walled corrugated boxes), if it's smaller and fits in a flat rate box go with USPS.  Never go with UPS.  Somehow they end up being the most expensive and the most likely to destroy stuff in shipping.

Funny you would say that, Uniserver. When I used insure packages, I would insure it for double it's worth. And it would go through with care. But with no insurance, they would use it as a soccer ball they have at their man distribution site! The reason is, they do not want to pay for damage done.

I remember sending glass figurine to an ex years ago. The figurine was about 4in tall X 2in X 2in. I wrapped in newspaper and then in flexi foam (thin foam sheets that can bend without breaking) and then in packing peanuts in a box bigger than a shoe box.  Took it to USPS, and told the postal-lady that it was fragile. She took out her "FRAGILE" Stamp (6in across) and banged each side of the box with it! She basically destroyed that little figurine then and there.

With Macs, I've been very lucky. All survived the trip but all the boxes look like they went through trench warfare before arriving to my home. One box I received a 1400 in looks like Cookie Monster took a huge bite out of the side corner! I should have taken a photo of it before throwing out the box.

Yes i'm very excited to get an SE from an enthusiast.   I'm going to have fun with the SE until I find myself not playing with it much.  I think after that I am going to move up to a Mac II to start having fun with add on cards.  Maybe a vintage mac per year.  haha.

At a vintage Mac a year, it would take you 25 years to get them all and then all the nice new stuff now will be vintage by then! (LOL!)
