2400c 7.6.1PCMCIA drivers?

I have a PB2400c running 8.6 and I am experimenting with downgrading it to 7.6.1. The OS will install find but the PCMCIA slots now don't work. I am assuming that as the 2400c originally shipped with 7.6.1 these slots should work. Any ideas?

what do you mean by "the pcmcia slots don't work". what does that mean. do they not eject anymore or something?

Nothing inserted into the slots even shows up as a generic device. As an example my CF Card and FArrallon ethernet card show up on the desktop under 8.6 even if there drivers aren't installed. They don't show up at all under 7.6.1 even with the drivers for the card installed. It seem like the software to drive the PCMCIA slots is missing

you can do different installs onto a CF card and boot from them, so that you can see up to which distro the pcmcia works

A thought that comes to mind is CarbonLib.
If I'm right, you'll to experiment a bit, say, PCMCIA drivers from SSW 8.1 or 8.6, Finder from SSW 7.6.1 and System from SSW 8.1 as well CarbonLib 1.0, 1.1 or 1.2.
If I remember correctly SSW 8.1 supports up to CarbonLib 1.2.
