12" iBook G4 1.33GHz

An iBook (12" 1.33GHz) purchased off of eBay arrived last week for one of my children, thus freeing up my old 12" 1.5GHz PowerBook that had been hers for homework in secondary school; it has now made its return to papa, who really, really likes the form factor of the 12" PowerBooks. The iBook, happily, has 1.5 GB of RAM in it, 1GB of which will go into the 12" PowerBook (both take PC-133 SODIMMS), with a separately-purchased 512MB SODIMM going back into the iBook. This will produce two very usable Tiger portables, one for my daughter with 1GB RAM and one for me with 1.25GB. Now all I need is a high capacity battery, since my PowerBook's battery is not in the best of health after three years, despite having only 90 cycles on the clock. As Indiana Jones said in one of the films, "It's not the years, honey, it's the mileage." These things run hot.

The iBook, for its part, is in good condition, with a 4hr battery and in very reasonable nick all around — with the notable exception of missing the two rubber bumpers on the screen bezel and having the three statutorily missing rubber feet.

Not wishing to spend further fortunes on little pieces of rubber on eBay, is there a DIY solution to the missing feet situation that has worked for others? I am trying to think of something that will look more or less "meant," as the machine has to look the part for a 16 year-old girl. I was thinking of trying to mold something in "Shoo Goo," but others hay have a better suggestion....

you might want to take a look lowes has these little clear rubbery stick pads for like 2-3bucks for 12 of em or something. Decently styleish and will serve your purpose well.

My two daily driver lappies are a 12" 1.33GHz iBook G4 and an 867MHz TiBook. The iBook is solid and I really like the size.

If the battery casing is in bad shape, I think you can still get replacements from NewerTech, a nicked or chipping battery casing really lets down a computer case!

"Reasonable nick" = reasonable condition for a three year old machine.

That stick of PC-2700 arrived in the post today and the RAM transplant was done. Having the 1.25GB of RAM in the 12" PowerBook makes one heck of a difference in MacOS X.4.11 over running it on the stock 512MB. The iBook, for its part, doesn't seem at all put out by its reduction to 1GB.

So a happy ending for both units.
