I am sure this has been posted about before, but my lack of technical expertise doesn't even know what to search for.
I have an original mac - Last week it worked fine. This week, when I turned it on, I got nothing on the screen. The boot chime sounded as normal, and when a disk is inserted I...
Hey all - Does the PRAM battery in the G3 Wallstreets pose an existential threat to the machine like the PRAM battery in the 3400c and other machines? Based on where and how Apple buried it, it doesn't seem like any leakage would affect the innards of the machine (so long as it was left laying...
I pulled out my Powerbook 180 for the first time since I moved (several months) and fired it up. I have a new battery I bought not too long ago, so it holds a charge pretty well. The machine fired up and was working fine. After a bit, I got a message saying "Your battery is not charging...
This is probably a very simple question (and something I probably knew how to do way back when), but I can't seem to remember:
I am trying to create a bootable/installable set of OS 7.1 floppies. I have .Image files of the set (Install, Install 2, Fonts, Disk Tools, Printing, Tidbits), and I...
So I received a ReactiveMicro Universal PSU unit today for my Apple III.
The instructions for installing/wiring it are here:
http://reactivemicro.com/w/images/2/2a/2016-11-07_-_ReActiveMicro_-_Universal_PSU_Kit_-_Install_Instructions.pdf
The Apple III instructions begin at p.46.
I have...
So this week I got quite the Apple III haul -- Two Apple IIIs, an external Disk III, 2 Monitor IIIs, a Profile HD, and a silentype printer, and a Titan "III to IIe" emulation card for a combined $150. I also got some Apple II related stuff for like $30 extra.
One Apple III seems to have some...
So I acquired additional Apple III-related goods today from the same Craigslist source, including a Monitor III. This Monitor III has a badge that is like glued to the front that reads "Apple Computer Inc: 1082" (see picture below). Has anyone seen badges like this before? Is this a sign it...
So I was just generally curious about something:
Yesterday I tried turning on my Apple II+ for the first time in months (because of a move into a new house, most of my collection has been in a dormant, hibernating state). Now, it wasn't a very pleasant experience, mostly because I plugged the...
I know some (several?) people on this forum have SCSI2SDs in their Macintosh Portables. I have a SCSI2SD, but have never gone ahead and tried to throw it in the Portable. Bear with my lack of technical skill, but I was hoping someone could help me figure out how to get this done...
Are PRAM batteries in the 180 and 500 series Powerbooks prone to leakage? Are they easy to get at for someone, like me, who is leery about opening up closed machines?
So I fired up my original Mac for the first time in about a month, and the floppy drive seems to have been possessed by a demon in the interim.
The drive will read/boot from a disk no problem, but it makes an unholy sound whenever it reads or writes to the disk. See attached movie. It...
I recently acquired, for free, a 2009 Mac Pro - dual, 4 core 2.26ghz Xeons, 12 GB RAM, 2 640 GB hard drives, and an NVIDIA T120 with 512MB.
I am thinking of turning this into an every day machine for work and gaming. I can pick up one of the old aluminum Apple LCDs for $130 and I was thinking...
Just acquired an Apple II+ today along with a Disk II. I posted these questions in my conquest thread, but I figured it made sense to post them here too:
When I tried to load a couple of games, it said that it could not run them because the diskette required 64k of RAM. I was confused by this...
Hey there,
5.25" floppies are not getting any younger. I just got my first Apple II system (a IIc) and am starting to look on eBay for software. How do you guys backup the software in the unfortunate, but progressively more likely, event the disk goes bad?
After many months, and the motherboard being sent to people who are brilliant, and the battery being rebuilt, and the hard drive being replaced, MY MAC PORTABLE LIVES!
Thank you very much to Techknight, Uniserver, and Canby for their awesome help!
The only thing less than perfect on it right...
Hey guys -- The Apple IIc I got today has a loose floppy drive door. In other words, it doesn't lock in either the open or closed position. I haven't received my IIc monitor yet, so I can't actually try using it. Am I going to have a problem with the machine reading disks if the door is loose?
Because I had to remove the internal 400k drive, I am using a 128k Mac with an external drive with the original system disk that came with the machine. When I go to shut down, it doesn't give me the prompt saying it is safe to switch off the machine. Instead, the system just restarts. Does...
Hey there,
I currently have an HD20 with 6.0.8 installed. If I wanted to get this to work with a 128k Mac (as a startup disk) I am assuming I have to move it down to System 4 or something. Is it as simple as say, booting up the 128k Mac using a floppy, turning on the HD, erasing the HD's...
It seems I have started to have enough Apple stuff to warrant my own thread!
My current collection consists of:
(1) Macintosh Portable 5120 (which Uniserver, Techknight, and Canby have been instrumental in helping me bring back to life)
(2) Two Macintosh Pluses
(3) Powerbook 180
(4)...
