According to http://www.applefool.com/se30/, System 7.1 should be able to connect to OS X 10.12 Jaguar as long as AppleShare WS 3.5 is installed, and possibly MacTCP 2.0.6 and Network Software Install 1.5.1. I've tried with and without the TCP and networking software, but no dice. The 10.2 machine shows up in the Chooser, prompts me for login, but once I try to log in, I get the message "The connection to this server has been unexpectedly broken". The 10.2 machine has AppleTalk enabled, and I can access it from 7.5/7.6, so I don't think it's a "server" or issue with my network.
I also made sure MacTCP got an IP using MacPing before trying to connect to the 10.2 box from the Chooser, but no dice. I'm not sure if AppleShare WS 3.5 even has the capability of connecting to AppleShares over TCP/IP, but I thought I would try everything.
Any tips? Has anyone ever gotten System 7.1 to connect to 10.2? I bought Power Mac G5 just to run 10.2 for this purpose, so I'm crossing my fingers. Thanks!
