Wallpaper - Desktop Patterns for Systems 6 & 7

Recommended Posts

I just snagged what looks like a complete set.  This one has me excited.  It's a desktop wallpaper program that works with both System 6 and 7.  It expands the patterns and color selection from the original 8x8 pixels to multiple 32x32 blocks for up to 128x128 pixels, allowing for more interesting patterns.

The nifty part is that I won a completely different auction by coincidence that had a large stack of subscription disks + an upgrade disk for Wallpaper.  The upgrade disk is a simple screensaver that utilizes your Wallpaper patterns.  I haven't seen this backed up anywhere, so I'm glad I got it.

Furthermore, how many people do you guys think actually did the full subscription disk package?  I'm guessing these are pretty rare.  According to the manual, the subscription was $25 a year for 2 disks.  So this collection cost them $75 in 1990s dollars, not including the upgrade disk.

Yeah, they're just a collection of silly background patterns that anyone could make, but I really like seeing all these original disks together.  Definitely a very nice addition to my collection. :)

  There's a Wallpaper t-shirt on eBay, yet another unrelated auction.  According to the manual, it was a prize given out to the best wallpapers selected for their subscription disks.  A bit pricey for a t-shirt ... but how badly do I want a complete complete collection. :P

Sweet deal. I love neat little collections like these. And tile wallpaper! It's the best. I use tiled patterns on all my modern machines.

Upload to Macintosh Garden maybe? :)

Haha that shirt is cool as hell. Not too bad for the current timed "sale" price IMO. Let me know if you're passing on it ;)

@dzog  Oh, that sale is brand new.  I went ahead and snagged the t-shirt.  I had offered $20 but it was automatically declined.  Maybe that's why they just put it on sale.  Now I have the complete Wallpaper set. :D

@LaPorta  Can I access vTools from a System 7.1 Pro machine?

Some good news, by the way: I was able to read and copy every disk with Disk Copy 4.2.  I was previously 0 for 2 with my eBay purchases of NOS software. :(  Both my GopherGolf and MacGolf were bad.  MacGolf was so bad, the disk coating came off and crashed the head on my floppy drive.  Then the next disk I put in got scratched up (fortunately, it wasn't anything I couldn't replace.)  But even after a cleaning, the drive would scratch any disk put in it.  I don't know why it does that.  So I threw the head out and replaced it.  I now have a makeshift external floppy just for imaging disks from eBay so it doesn't kill my internal drive or, gods forbid, my AE HD+ drive.

Awesome, I'm hyped!:sleepy:

I feel you on the old floppy disk woes. I too have a drive dedicated to first-test and imaging - the internal on my LC 475. Easy to access for service when needed. I've been aggressively using cleaning disks when testing/imaging old sketchy disks. Have had a fair share of bad disks, dirty disks and residue buildup though nothing fully disintegrating :D
