Yet ANOTHER Quadra 950 . . . =8-/

I put a "best offer" bid in on a "Quadra 950 Case" of $15-n-change because the shipping was $14-n-change, figuring for $30.00 even, I might hack some electronics into it as it supports the other end of a table. I'm considering a higher table than my coffee table to support the 32" HDTV when I have company over. My coffee table is the 1/2" rounded corner-rounded edge childproof replacement for the sharp-cornered 3/4" beveled glass top on a simple wood base design I rippe . . . erm . . . adapted to my needs from a square design at The Door Store up in NYC. It's supported by a Quadra 840 AV and some matching PPC that I can't remember the spec on ATM.

Anyways, the box comes today and I figure GREAT, I've got some hacking to figure out in order to turn this case into something useful! I open the humongous box and what do I find?

A perfectly good Q950 that boots into a minimal install of 7.1 on a 500 MB HDD!

No hacking for me . . . the sucker even came with the friggin KEY! :-/

But it'll still make a fine second support for my HDTV table!

It's not nearly as cool as its mate, an Appleshare 3 Server w/FOUR HDDs and lots of RAM . . . :

But you do what you can with the hand you're dealt, maybe it'd make an interesting launchpad for my Rocket 33? ;D

Zippo, the server didn't have any in it either. Musta been from some cheaps*** school just like the server.

I've gotta dig out the box of NuBus goodies & a straight thru Mac DB-15 -> VGA HD-15 adapter. I'm dying to see 1280 x 1024 on my 17" HP LCD Monitor at millions, the Q950's MoBo only puts out thousands at that res . . . which reminds me. I've gotta mail in the rebate or that LCD will have cost me $35.00 more than the $79.00 price as advertised!

Got the $50-something in-store rebate & the VERY LAST ONE TOO!

Very nice, the Q950 is one of the fastest quadras, only very slightly slower in speed to the 840 or 800. (It makes up for the very unnoticeable difference by being super-expandable.).

I always wanted one, but its too big. I already have a huge server.

That's sorta the point, I needed a second case to support a tabletop for a big HDTV . . . }

. . . or at least the 32" one I've got now, for when I've got company coming over. :

Let me know if you think of something to do with your Quadra case - I have a bunch of Compact cases that I'd love to do something constructive with and am looking for ideas. I'm thinking of a portable, powerful battery-operable stereo system which could be really cool with the handle and enough room to fit decent speakers. I also saw the G3 beer spigot online, and just found a "Mac o Lantern" painted orange on the side of the street.

If you want ideas about what to do with Compact Mac & other cases, check out Tekserve's site. They always had the COOLEST booths when Apple used to come to Javits.

The summer I got my son a job working there, he helped one of the owners create an ENTIRE FREAKIN' LIVING ROOM including working (digital of course) fireplace/mantel as well as a Sofa , Chair, Ottoman & Coffee Table out of all kinds of Macs!

They MUST have it archived on their website, if not, email them and tell them that their new fans on the web wanna see it again!
