Will a 950 run with an LC040?

Hate to render it useless, but its full 040 is going into the new 605. Can I just swap the LC in and still have a working but slower 950?

yes it should work.

also the 25mhz LC040 will still run at 33 mhz in the 950.

I did a 25mhz --> 33mhz today and it ran uncomfortably hot without a heatsink. I'd suggest installing one if you plan on running at 33mhz.

This is a great idea!

I have a Q900 mobo that has been sitting around (a spare in case my running one goes out). I am going to snatch the 040 chip out of that and throw it into my Q605 as well. Thanks for starting this thread.

:)

My 25MHz Full 040 chip is running at 124-126 deg(F) and it has a heat sink. What is the temperature that I should start to worry?

How do you check the temp on these early systems?

What heat x-fer glue or tape will properly affix a scavenged heat sink to the OC'd '040?

I use a IR gun. mine with it OC'd @ 33mhz, @ Full load never got beyond 150 degrees, I used a silver thermal grease, and 2 thin long heatsinks.

Also keep in mind, with the lid off there is no airflow. the ventilation fan only works when the case closed.

to attach the HS to the cpu, i use a little dab of GOOP(e6000) on the very tip of all 4 corners of the cpu.

you can also use artic silver 2 part compound, or jbweld. again I like hacks that you can reverse.

Goop is strong, but can still be ripped off.
